I get this question asked almost all the time before a makeup trial. Every artist will have a different perspective. I based it on the client’s skin type and weather conditions. The change in season can play havoc with our skin. This is why a thorough makeup trial consultation is imperative. Understanding your clients skin type, how foundation wears on their skin throughout the day, when do they start to get oily, or are they dry, what textures they like and don’t like, etc.
Airbrush makeup is known for lasting longer than regular makeup, but I find that to be untrue. There are so many ranges of foundation on the market now that deliver the “airbrush effect.” Foundations can be just as good if not prettier on the skin in my opinion. I am able to customize the foundation based off the client’s skin to create the flawless and skin like finish. Also, I have more control utilizing different makeup tools from beautyblenders, brushes, sponges to fingertips. If you are more on the dry side, I definitely recommend doing traditional makeup over airbrush makeup because airbrush makeup can feel heavier on the skin and if you lean more on the dry side, you’ll feel the makeup even more.
What is Airbrush makeup? And how does Airbrush makeup look on?
Airbrush makeup uses the power of compressed air to mist foundation across your skin using foundation cartridges. If it’s done well on the right skin type, airbrush makeup will have a semi matte finish with a flawless look. If you are very oily, sweat easily on your face or having your wedding in a humid climate, airbrush will do well for you. Airbrush makeup can look drying on dry, textured, or mature skin. I don’t recommend it for these skin types.
